25 Authors of Christmas Blog Tour Interview with Gretchen Powell + Giveaway

Hi guys!

I've joined the 25 Authors of Christmas blog tour. So, here is the interview with Gretchen Powell, the author of Terra! Not to mention there may just be a little giveaway at the bottom of the page. ;)

Terra:

In the distant wake of a plague that has decimated the Earth's population, humanity is split in two. The rich and powerful live in skycities that float overhead, while those who remain on the ground have gathered in settlements strewn across a dying planet. Eighteen-year-old Terra Rhodon makes her living as a scav, scouting the earth for discarded scraps and metals to recycle for profit. While on a routine scavenging run, she discovers something that shocks her home settlement of Genesis X-16.

Terra suddenly finds herself asking questions no one will answer. Fueled by curiosity, her search for the truth ultimately leads her to Adam--a beguiling boy with a secret that has the power to change humanity's existence forever.

Interview:

- What was the best Christmas present that you've ever received?

I absolutely love to cook. Aside from books, food is pretty much my favorite thing ever. So a few Christmases ago, my brother got me a KitchenAid mixer--something that had been on my Christmas list for years, but without any realistic expectations of ever getting one, since they're so expensive. He got me one anyway, and--this is really embarrassing -I literally burst into tears as I tore through the wrapping paper. It was just so unexpected and SO sweet. My family never lets me live down the crying though, hahaha.

- What is your favorite holiday book?

My favorite holiday book, since I was really young, has been The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell. It's a children's picture book that follows the story of a little out-of-place angel and the story of Christmas. I have the fondest memories of my dad reading the book to me when I was a kid, and it's always stuck with me.

- Did you have any Christmas traditions growing up?

Oh man, what Christmas traditions DON'T I have? Even though all the "kids" are grown up now, our family still does Christmas big time. We always built and decorate a gingerbread house, try to recreate my aunt's amazing sugar cookie recipe (still haven't succeeded, sigh!), watch Christmas movies drinking eggnog and apple cider... it's my absolute favorite time of year. I'm really lucky that my family has always been able to celebrate Christmas together--so far, at least!

- What's your favorite part in celebrating Christmas?

I don't know if I can pick just one favorite part about Christmas! I love it all--from the songs to the baked goods to the fact that I can get away with wearing a Santa hat for basically the entire month of December... but I guess if I really had to pick just one thing, I think it's about how everyone just seems to be filled with a sense of good around this time each year. People just seem happier and cheerier for the most part. Well, as long as you're not at the mall, they do. If you're fighting the Christmas shopping crowds, I doubt you'll see much good will towards man, hahaha.

- If you could receive any gift for Christmas, what would you want that gift to be?

This year is pretty easy--the best possible gift anybody could give me is to read my book! Writing and publishing Terra, my first novel, has been an absolute dream come true, so now I just want as many people to share in the experience with me as possible! Obviously, my hope is also that they will enjoy the book, and if they end up wanting to spread the word, that's just a bonus!

- What are you looking forward to most about Christmas this year?

I haven't had a single sip of eggnog yet this season, so I am definitely looking forward to that! I also can't wait for my sister and her husband to get back into town, since they recently moved away. I don't think it'll feel 100% like Christmas until my whole family is back together. :)
